The first company to introduce a CAD software product to the general public was the San Francisco-based (and later acquired by Autodesk) Tessellation Inc. in the early 1980s. AutoCAD 2005, also known as AutoCAD 2006, was formally announced as a future release of AutoCAD in August 2004, and is the current version of the application. It was released for desktop use on December 14, 2005.

AutoCAD was designed to reduce the time for a novice user (but still allowing the expert user to achieve their desired results). AutoCAD has many features to allow users to save time and effort, including a number of powerful and fast tools for customization.
Several wizards in AutoCAD allow the user to accomplish many tasks with one click. For example, the image capture and annotation wizard creates a quick image of the active object and places it as a bounding box on a new drawing, ready to be annotated. The text capture and annotation wizard is similar, but allows the user to annotate the image (in this case, a paper sheet) with the mouse or a graphic tablet, and the result is a single annotated image that contains the full text.
Another common feature that allows users to save time is the ability to model common geometric shapes or objects, such as rectangular, cylindrical, conical, spherical, toroidal, and elliptical shapes. By drawing the 3D model of the desired shape on a 2D surface, the user can save considerable time in the design and drafting process. For example, a user could draw a rectangular slab or roof and then cut the existing wall to create a rectangular space for a door or window.

Once in Autodesk, go to “Settings”.
Go to “File” and then “Backup”.
In “Backup”, go to “Add” and then “Create Backup”.
Now that your backup is saved, create a new folder in “Desktop” and give it the name “Software”.
Navigate to the downloaded zip file (With the Autodesk software) and extract the “AutodeskDesigner 2012.sde” file to “Software”.
Open “Software” and select “AutodeskDesigner 2012”.
Go to the “File” and then “Open”.
A pop-up message will ask you to choose the folder to save the project in.
Go to the folder you have chosen and open “Autodesk DesignCenter”.
Now, create a new project.
Type “New Project” and then press “OK”.
Give the project a name (Only autodesk license permits) and type the location of the project.
Now, click on the “Location” tab on the upper left hand corner.
Click on “Browse” and navigate to the “Software” folder you created earlier.

Click on the folder and then select “Open”.
Now select the “AutodeskDesigner 2012” project you created earlier.
Click “File”, “New”, “Text”.
Type “RS-Design” and then click on “OK”.
Now, double-click “Rs-Design”, type the name of the layer and click on “OK”.
